The Camp Pendleton Surf Club is only charged 1 time a year for hosting and domain registration. Increased bandwith or storage use can increase the cost in the middle of the year, and instead of making Big Frankie write another check, it would help if the CPSurfClub website had a fund specifically for incidental expenses. You can be assured that all money will go towards hosting and upkeep costs only.

Site fixes

Fixed an issue with the forums not loading and the login block not being visible. Please let me know if you find any other problems with the site. I don’t always notice them in a timely fashion.

Charlie Cartwright

I know it’s been a while since we’ve had any updates, and unfortunately, I have some bad news to post…

Sgt. Charlie Cartwright was killed, November 7, 2009 while supporting Marines in Afghanistan.

Cartwright was assigned to the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Pendleton, California.

He joined the Marine Corps September 10, 2001, and was trained in reconnaissance. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2006. He was on his fourth tour of duty in the Middle East.

His military awards include two Purple Hearts, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal, two Combat Action Ribbons, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, two Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, two Iraqi Campaign Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, four Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, NATO Medal and two Certificates of Commendation.

He was the son of Michael and Carol Ann Cartwright of Union Bridge, Maryland, and the husband of Marissa Cartwright.

According to Ted, “He was one of the truly good guys out there, and unlike us – he could no shit surf”.

I understand a few of the guys did a paddle out for him at Churches last Wednesday.

Semper Fi Charlie.. You’ll be missed.

New Forum… That Works!

Ok.. Took a while to get it integrated, and it’s not fully integrated yet.. Just semi-integrated, but…

We now have forums that can be accessed without going to another web page (like the previous ones), and your usernames and logins for this site work perfectly. You do NOT have to re-sign in .

So I’ll be working to make it look a bit more streamlined, but there is a recent posts box on the sidebar now. :)

Oh yeah.. hope everyone likes the new theme…

We’re mobile!!!

Now you can visit www.cpsurfclub.com from your mobile device (phone, Palm Pilot, etc..) and navigate the site with a mobile optimized interface. It’s automagically detected, so you don’t have to do anything special.

Site Maintenance

First off, I’ll have to apologize. I have been neglecting my duties and the website has fallen off the wagon. We (the website and I) are now working to remedy that situation. I’ve upgraded the underlying engine that makes everything here possible. I may upgrade it one more time to the latest and greatest version. Normally I stay one version behind unless there are security updates or something reeeeealllly cool in the new version. Cool stuff is the reason I’m thinking of going to the latest and greatest. Well.. Cool to me. I’m a geek though.

Anyway, I’m working on giving the site a refreshing.. Possible anarchy to follow.

Forum updates

I’m working on getting the latest forum posts to show up on the front page of the site.. Until then, check out the Forums link at the top of the page.. There’s been some activity you all might be interested in.

Surf Contest Oct 25th at Point Mugu

navysurfr writes:

Just wanted you to let everyone know in your surf club that there is a contest up at Point Mugu that is a Pro-Am as well. I have actually heard Dane Reynolds has comitted to surf in this event as well. This is pretty ground breaking since they are allowing this one time for regular non-DOD/civilians to drive right on base and surf in the contest. The best part is that there is a military division so we aren’t pitted against surfers who get to surf every day or for that matter for a living. This way we can represent the military as well. I spoke to Mr. Fred Morgan up at Point Mugu and he said there were still plenty of spots open in the Military division. Give me a call at 619-519-1611 if you have any more questions or need more info. Oh yeah, contest date is 25OCT08. Thanks Jeff Easson Aka – navysurfr

New Forums

Decided to integrate BBPress Forums into the site. All of your usernames and passwords are integrated. I’m working on changing it so you don’t have to login twice (here and then the forums), but they’re up and running. Will work on further integration and customization today.

Forums not working..

But I’m working on it… Thanks to everyone who brought it to my attention.
